“I’d Rather Have Nothing”

“I’d rather have nothing than a whole lot of something
that don’t fit the life that I lead.
Material things and all that wealth brings
just must be for some other breed.
Because life ain’t about the worries and doubts
that comes with the lust and the greed.

-Mike McClure of Great Divide.

#Pour some sugar on me

When was that?

Back when the country was strong
Back before Elvis
Before the Vietnam war
Before The Beatles
Before microwave ovens
When a girl could still cook and still would
When a man could still work and still would

-Merle Haggard (1982)

Greatness is a relative word, based on perspective and history.

“This land was made for you and me”

“This land is your land, this land is my land…”

I am pretty sure, one of the best ways to help yourself is to help your neighbor.

Whether your neighbor is across the street, across the river, across the border, or across the ocean, an open heart and a thoughtful mind is not limited by distance.

I am hopeful we do not forget the lessons of history.
